Sunrises
I’ve been preparing for a big event, so my article this week is going to be short and sweet.
I love mornings. I always have. I’m one of those “crazy morning people.”
When I first started my business, I had heard how many successful entrepreneurs got up at crazy early hours to make the most of their day and so I followed suit – for at least a while.
I had a morning ritual that I called #mymornings. I got up at 4:30am, exercised, made a cup of tea, meditated, and then watched the sunrise.
Despite being tired, I loved having the quiet hours before dawn to myself. What I loved most was watching the sunrise.
After a while, it became a bit of a game. As the first lights started to illuminate the sky, I would try and guess what type of a sunrise we would have. Sometimes the sky would just get brighter – the sky would go from black, to grey, to blue as the sun came up over the mountainside and filled the sky with light. This happened when there were no clouds in the sky.
On other days, it would go from black to dark grey. If storm clouds covered everything the only indicator the sun had risen at all was the fact that it was no longer dark outside… but you never could see the light fully.
On the best mornings, there would be just enough clouds in the sky to pick up the light and make it dance with colors of gold, red, and orange. Those were always my favorites.
Nowadays, I get to watch the sunrise when I walk my son to the schoolbus each morning and I found myself thinking of the sunrise like a metaphor.
The best sunrises have some clouds. Sunrises without clouds have nothing to show off their beauty. Sunrises that are full of clouds block us from seeing the sun. But sunrises with at least a few clouds can make the sky dance.
Life is like that. If it was all easy-going, or in other words had no clouds, we wouldn’t understand the beauty and power of our experiences. If it was all dark and hard all the time, we’d lose the joy of living. When life feels heavy, I like to remember that the sun is always there – even if I can’t see it. And the morning after a storm is often the most beautiful.
Thanks for reading with me today. I hope there are many spectacular sunrises in your coming days.
